What a week to welcome in December! Coffee House Poetry was successful indeed! I am so proud! Thank you for all the hard work that you did at home to help support this day. Also, a huge thank you to our homeroom moms, Jenny and Laura, for orchestrating the details of the event from room set up and coffee/hot cocoa to door decorating. I appreciate so much all they do to help support the classroom and our activities. This is such a memorable day for the students and families. Thank you ladies for all you do!
From Mrs. Martin...
The CCE Singing Stars Choir will be presenting their holiday concert "Share Your Goodwill" next Thursday, December 10th at 7:00 pm. As part of our concert, we are sponsoring a holiday food drive to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. There are five collection bins in the hallway near the cafeteria. We will be accepting food donations through December 17th.
Items most requested include: peanut butter, canned chicken breast and/or tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, dry powdered milk, brown rice, dry pinto beans and whole grain cereals.
If each student at Canyon Creek brought in one or two items to donate, we would easily fill the five collection bins! Please consider donating food items to this most worthy cause for our neighbors in need during this holiday season.
From the Counselor....
Wow! It is December--can you believe it? It is time for our next Character Word of the Month!! Our character word for December is PATIENCE!! In school, we show patience with our friends when we let them go first or ask them nicely to do things. At home, we show patience with our brothers and sisters when they annoy us. Patience means that you remain calm--even when something is frustrating to you. In December, if your teacher sees you being patient, then you will get a sticker to wear all day so that other students will know that you demonstrated our Character Word of the Month!

A note from our second graders...
Hello! We are knee-deep in their PBL project. We are trying to get at least 100 items donated to the Austin Zoo so that we can support the humane care and treatment of animals in captivity.
All second graders started by reading the wonderful book THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN. In that story, some of the animal characters were not treated nicely and they were not living in habitats that they needed. We decided to see if second graders could make a difference for these types of animals. We learned about the Austin Zoo and thought that they could use donations to take care of the animals there.
We will put donation boxes out for next week - December 7 - 11th. Please find the posters in the hallway for suggested donations or contact Mrs. Clark.
